Australia's bath resurfacing specialists

The Ultraglaze Bath Resurfacing Process is Australia's own premium resurfacing process. It was developed here, and is delivered by a network of trained specialists around the country.

What is Ultraglaze?

Bath resurfacing, or reglazing, is the application of a new surface over the old one. When the work is carried out correctly, with the right process, the result looks as good as new. Chips, cracks, stains and scratches are repaired as part of the process, leaving a smooth, shiny, easy-to-clean finish. It suits baths, basins, shower bases and wall tiles, for a fraction of the cost of replacement.

Our history

The Ultraglaze process was developed out of a need to offer customers a product that lives up to the promise. In 1980 the founder of the company purchased a business that included a franchise of an American bath resurfacing system. After a few frustrating years it became obvious there was room in the industry for something better. Back then a bath was acid etched, given a layer of epoxy coating and left to air-dry for four days before the customer could remove the masking themselves.

A research and development programme began in the late 1980s. After several big steps forward in bonding, application, curing and finishing, we now have what is considered the best process of its kind. It became the cornerstone of Ultraglaze in Canberra and is now used by Ultraglaze operators around Australia.

As a group we have resurfaced thousands of baths, basins and shower trays, and we stand behind our warranty knowing you are unlikely ever to need it. We have exported the Ultraglaze process to Malaysia, Indonesia, South Korea, India and France, and continue to manufacture the key components in-house, giving us total control over quality.

The process, step by step

  1. Surface preparation. The existing surface is cleaned with our Ultraglaze Pre-Cleaners. A two-stage approach leaves it perfectly clean and free of contamination.

  2. Repairs. Any chips or deep scratches are rebuilt with high-quality metallic-grade filler. In nearly all cases there is no evidence of damage to the original surface.

  3. Masking. The area around the item is carefully masked. This controls overspray and helps keep airborne dust off the item during application.

  4. Priming. The Ultraglaze Primer is a unique bonding agent applied before resurfacing. This adhesion promoter is a critical part of the process; without it the job would simply fail.

  5. Coating application. The Ultraglaze Coating is applied with an HVLP turbine-powered gun, in several layers until the right thickness is reached. Any colour is possible, though white is by far the most common.

  6. Baking. The new surface is cured with a high-frequency infrared baking unit, which cuts the curing time from overnight to as little as a few hours.

  7. Polishing. Once cured, the bath, basin or shower tray is hand rubbed to remove any dust particles that landed during coating. This step is unique to Ultraglaze.

  8. Waste outlet insert. If the original waste fitting is tarnished or worn, your technician can fit a chrome or gold-plated waste outlet insert over it, without removing the original fitting.
